First Days on the Road
Christian January 30th, 2008
The 23 hour journey from our house to Buenos Aires was not all too bad. We were nervous because on the long 11 hour flight, our seats were 15 rows apart. However asking the man at the front desk about our seats ended up being a very smart call. He kept our tickets and told us that he would call us back up when he knew more about our seats. Fourty five minutes later and the plane was boarding and still no news. But at the last moment our man Roberto came through. He upgraded our seats to “Economy Plus” for free and sat us together in an emergency row. Which is great, there was nobody next to us and we could prop our feet up. It really made our flight. The taxi desk at the airport in Buenos Aires was very helpful, getting us a driver and a ride into the city. I must say at first our taxi driver made us nervous when he said that the area was dangerous. He said how people drink too much cerveza in this area. However, rest assured, after asking others in the area, we deem the area safe. Our hostel does not have a real front door, just a buzzer and a large door. It is nice, we have our own lockers, a courtyard, and our very own bathroom complete with hot water and a shower curtain with plenty of positions. We have spent the last two days walking around this large city. The day started out with a steady rain but we walked around the city for a couple of hours and we have just discovered the subway today which saved us at least an hour walk back to our hostel. We are had a couple of backpacking firsts over these last couple of days including washing our clothes in a sink and trying our hand in cooking our first meal in our hostel (pasta). We can tell that there is a lot to learn to the art of backpacking. The internet is proving to be very unreliable, the first 2 days we were here the entire neighborhood was out. We have visited many parts of the city and tomorrow we leave for Iguazu Falls via 17 hour bus ride. Wish us luck since Christian accidently reformatted all the music from his IPOD. Since the internet is so slow we cant add any pics yet, but we will as soon as we find a faster connection. We will update more on what we saw and did in Buenos Aires in the next post. Until then, Chow y Nos Vemos!

Hey Guys,
I am really glad to hear that you made it on the first leg of your adventure safely and in relative comfort from what it sounds like. Take care of each other and make sure to update the site with all of your adventures and antics as often as you can. Your posts make for interesting and entertaining reading so give me something to kill time with at work. Hahahaha. I will be back often and I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
Cheers,
